About the Series

For the past year, cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer have embedded reporters Cameron Fields and Hannah Drown at Almira Elementary School, within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, with the goal of covering education in a way we never have before -- by bringing readers right into a classroom in one of America's poorest cities. The reporters walked alongside Almira students, as they experienced the trauma of housing insecurity, violence and drug addiction, bullying, language barriers, learning disabilities and mental health crises. And they watched Almira spring into action to help their students overcome those obstacles.

Their stories will be published in this series called Cleveland's Promise, a name that speaks to both the great promise each child holds and what should be our collective commitment to helping them realize it.
