Ranking 174 pasta sauces found in local grocery stores

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Everyone has a favorite way to dress their pasta and with jar sauce it feels like there's little middle ground: you either love it or hate it.

We're here to help you find a jar of sauce you will enjoy, whether you just need to get a weeknight dinner on the table or -- believe it or not -- are entertaining guests but don't have time to make marinara from scratch.

Behold, rankings of 174 pasta sauces we found and purchased at Greater Cleveland grocery stores for a gargantuan taste test.

They range in price from 85 cents(!) to $12.99.

Some of these sauces surprised us, and not always in a good way.

We went shopping at every major store and big box chain -- from Marc's to Trader Joe's and everywhere in between -- and chose up to two flavors from each brand on the shelves. If a brand offered a marinara, that was our first selection. We used the same brand of penne noodles for every sauce.

We ranked the 174 sauces from worst to best, with Classico Italian Sausage taking the ultimate No. 1 spot.

Another tidbit you may not believe: A sauce from Walmart's Sam's Choice brand made the Top 10.

See if you agree with the rankings. And we’d love to hear your go-to grocery store pasta sauce in the comments. Check out our rankings for 65 store-bought marinara sauces ranked from worst to best as well as rankings for 24 Alfredo sauces from grocery stores.
