CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It’s National Lemonade Day, a day set aside to pay homage to the simple summertime refresher.

Made with just water, sugar and lemon juice -- a recipe which hasn’t changed in more than 1,000 years -- lemonade is still one of the nation’s most popular thirst quenchers during the hot, sultry days of summer.

In fact, Americans spent nearly $600 million on the top-five selling refrigerated lemonade brands in the United States in 2018.

That got us curious about the wide variety of lemonade brands that fill Northeast Ohio’s grocer shelves and fridges. So cleveland.com’s Best of team -- Yadi Rodriguez and Brenda Cain -- spent the last few month trying 95 different varieties of lemonades purchased from local grocery stores -- Dave’s Markets, Heinen’s, Lucky’s Market, Marc’s, Whole Foods and Target.

Whether you like your lemonade plain, or with a twist, there is bound to be something on this list for everyone. We tried just about every combination of flavors and varieties to assure you will find something you’ll want to try.

Lemonades we sampled cost from 50 cents for a single serving to $4.99.

Methodology: We each tasted, took notes and independently assigned a ranking of one to five -- with five being the highest score. Once our scores were added together, we ranked the lemonades based on a combination of our combined scores and comments.

Our two top choices were found at Lucky’s Market on Cleveland’s west side. The original and strawberry lemonades are both made in house -- and are well worth the trip.

It was definitely the freshest we encountered. Nothing but water and sugar and fresh fruit -- perfectly balanced -- fresh squeezed in the store. No matter where you live in Northeast Ohio, this one is worth the trip!
