Common Questions

What is the difference between a live virtual tour and a virtual tour video?

A live virtual tour is a scheduled tour given by missionaries currently serving at the historic site, while a virtual tour video is a pre-recorded tour that can be watched at any time.

What should I expect during a live virtual tour?

A live virtual tour is similar to an in-person tour. As missionaries guide you through a historic building(s), you will hear stories about the individuals who lived or worked there, learn about important events, as well as see the related objects. You are welcome to ask the missionaries any questions you might have during or after the virtual tour.

How long does a live virtual tour last?

Live virtual tours vary in length depending on the site and the number of buildings included. In general, they will last between 30 minutes to an hour.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my live virtual tour?

After signing up for a live virtual tour, you will receive a confirmation email. In this email, there are options to cancel or change your appointment. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your virtual tour begins.

What languages are virtual tours available in?

Live virtual tours are always available in English and regularly available in Spanish. Depending on the missionaries assigned to serve at a historic site, other languages may be available. If a missionary is not available who speaks your native language, you may bring your own translator on the virtual tour. If you intend to bring a translator, please indicate that on the scheduling form when you book your tour.

Pre-recorded virtual tours are available in English and a select number are available in Spanish.

Are the live virtual tours private?

Except for Historic Nauvoo and Carthage Jail, live virtual tours are limited to the individual or group signing up. Live virtual tours of Historic Nauvoo and Carthage Jail are able to accommodate up to 300 devices, so you may be on a virtual tour with other people.

What kind of device do I need to take a live virtual tour?

Live virtual tours can be taken on any device with a stable internet connection and Zoom installed.

Who do I contact if I have additional questions?

If you have additional questions about taking a live virtual tour of a historic site, please email the scheduling missionaries at the site you are interested in touring.
