The City of Chandler administers a Wastewater Sewer Assessment Program that evaluates, prioritizes, and makes needed repairs to sewer pipes and manholes within the City’s wastewater collection system. As part of this program, sewer pipe and six manholes in the vicinity of the intersection of Dobson Road and Chandler Boulevard, and in Dobson Road to just north of Galveston Street, were identified as needing rehabilitation or replacement. The sewer infrastructure in this area ranges from 35 to 50 years old. In addition, water main replacement will take place in Chandler Boulevard from west of Dobson Road to east of Chippewa Place.
Based on the condition of the existing sewer pipe, where possible the rehabilitation will include installing a lining within the existing sewer pipe. This process has been found to reduce construction impacts to nearby businesses and the time needed for rehabilitation by eliminating the need for excavation. In some segments, the replacement and relocation of sewer pipe and manholes along with the abandonment of the old structures will need to take place by way of trenching and installing the pipeline. Installation of the new sewer pipe and manholes will require excavations as deep as 18-feet in some locations.
Water main replacement will take place by trenching and installing pipeline. Should disruptions to business or residential water service be needed, those impacted will be notified by door hanger 24-48 hours in advance.
Construction began in mid-May 2023 with an anticipated completion date of August 2024.
Construction Information (May 5, 2024):
- Waterline crews are currently working on the north side of Chandler Blvd, west of Alma School Rd and on the south side of Chandler Blvd, east of Dobson Rd to replace water pipeline and associated facilities. The alignment for waterline on the south side of Chandler Boulevard is near the middle of the roadway; however, shifts south (near the curb lane) at approximately Pennington. Lane reductions are in place in Chandler Blvd to shift traffic away from the work activity on either side of the road. Businesses or residents impacted by planned water disruptions will be notified in advance.
- Scheduled to take place May 15, Comanche Dr will be closed on the north side of Chandler Blvd for concrete crews to construct a valley gutter on the north side of the road. Detour signage will be in place to direct travelers around the closure.
- Scheduled to take place May 8 - 9, paving crews will pave back the work area on the north side of Chandler Blvd from Arrowhead to the west, and on the south side of Chandler Blvd from east of Dobson Rd to west of Pennington.
- Currently scheduled to take place during night hours, June 6 - 7, crews will apply thermo striping to the Dobson Rd/Chandler Blvd intersection.
