Apprenticeship Program Description

This CDA Apprenticeship Program is the first nationally registered early childhood apprenticeship program in the state of Michigan that works with multiple partners. It is a training program for individuals who work with children birth to five years old combining classroom instruction with on-the-job training and support. Building a talent pipeline into early childhood related fields. There are three (3) ways to be eligible for the registered apprenticeship.

  • Career & Technical Education Program – Enter through Education for Employment’’ Teacher Academy course upon successful completion.

  • Pre-Apprenticeship – Enter through Youth Opportunities Unlimited.

  • Direct Entry into Apprenticeship – 18+ years old, have a high school diploma or GED, currently working in a childcare center or family group home.

Program Requirements

Step 1: Complete ECE Registered Apprenticeship Application

Include in your application:

(1)   Driver’s License or Birth Certificate

(2)   High School Diploma or GED

(3)   Copy of cleared ICHAT and Central Registry

Return application and attachments to Child Care Resources. (Via: In-person, mail, email, fax)

 Step 2: Verification of eligibility

(1) Review of application and attachments 

(2) Identify credential: Infant/toddler, Preschool, Family child care 

Step 3: Orientation -Review of:

(1)   Employment Guidelines

(2)   ECE Registered Apprenticeship Standards

(3)   CDA Hybrid Course

(4)   Provide Verification of Education and Related Experience Hours (if applicable)

(5)   Sign necessary apprenticeship forms

 

Program Schedule

This is a CDA Hybrid Course

Classes meet monthly.

Hours: 6 – 8 pm

$450 (includes Material fee and Textbooks)

Complete 144 hours of educational training

Complete 480 hours of experience working with children (Birth-5 years old)

Develop a professional portfolio.

Complete 1300 hours to include Work Experience, Reflective Supervision, and Professional Development

150 Hours- Planning a safe and healthy learning environment

220 Hours- Advancing children’s physical and intellectual development

250 Hours- Supporting children’s social and emotional development

100 Hours- Building productive relationships with families

80 Hours- Managing an effective program

105 Hours- Maintaining a commitment to professionalism

220 Hours- Observing and recording children’s behavior

175 Hours- Understanding principles of child development and learning
