An annual celebration, Open Education Week (OE Week) is an opportunity for actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education worldwide.

Started in 2012 by the Open Education Global as a collaborative, community-built open forum, Open Education Week seeks to raise awareness and highlight open education efforts worldwide. OE Week provides practitioners, educators, and students an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of open educational practices and be inspired by the wonderful work being developed by the community around the world.

For 2021, CCCOER is holding a mix of synchronous and asynchronous events with a different theme for each day.

This page will also become the archive for these events, so if you miss something check this page afterward.

Tuesday, March 2 – Regional Leadership of Open Education(RLOE) Phase 2

Launched in fall 2019, the Regional Leadership for Open Education (RLOE) initiative was motivated by CCCOER leaders’ growing need to collaborate across institutional and state boundaries to find solutions for issues impacting OER adoption at diverse, large multi-institution systems. RLOE aims to inform and grow leadership at postsecondary institutions, library consortia, and government agencies to improve and scale open education as a systemic reform to reduce equity gaps and improve student success The program will take the policy, stewardship, professionalism, and sustainability outputs from RLOE initiative work done over 2019-20 and develop them into an RLOE Network program targeted to leaders of open education initiatives at postsecondary institutions. Recently, Open Education Global (OE Global) and the Community College Consortium for Open Education Resources (CCCOER) were awarded a 2-year grant by ECMC Foundation to fund the RLOE Network project

We invite you to come hear and provide feedback on the next phase of the Regional Leaders of Open Education. Learn how you and your colleagues can join with open educators across state and regional boundaries in focusing and scaling your open education strategic plans.

Wednesday, March 3 – Unleashing the Power of Massachusetts Students to Increase OER Awareness

The Massachusetts Student Advisory Council (SAC) to the Board of Higher Education implements strategies and advocates for the rights, needs, interests, and welfare of all students enrolled in public higher education within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a deliberative and recommending body to the Board of Higher Education, it is the purpose and duty of the Student Advisory Council to maintain a forum for expressing student views and interests while fostering academic freedom, responsibility, and excellence.

They will speak on their latest “Ten Days Of OER” campaign, as a public awareness campaign and a stepping stone for the student leaders who come after them.

EDI and OER Learning Community Reads on OEG Connect

Quill West, OER Project Manager at Pierce Community College District, has been leading the CCCOER EDI Learning Community. They have monthly informal meetings about issues in EDI. People from the community raise topics, issues, and/or ideas from their personal and professional practice and we have discussions on the topics raised. Our goal is to support one another in building practices that center EDI in openness.

For Open Ed Week (March 1-5) we would like to have an asynchronous group discussion about “Diversity, Equity And Inclusion In Open Research And Education” by Tara Robertson (estimated read time 10 minutes). The EDI Learning Community selected this chapter from Open At the Margins, an openly licensed collection of writings that seeks to highlight and listen to people who have been historically marginalized in the creation and practice of open education.

Please join us in our conversation on OEG Connect!

Friday, March 5 – OER Leadership: CCCOER and Global Perspectives

We will end the week with another asynchronous event, celebrating leaders in OER. CCCOER Executive Council Members will curate examples of OER Leadership including within CCCOER. Participate in the discussion on OE Global’s discussion board https://connect.oeglobal.org/c/oeweek  or other social media using #OERleaders
