The House Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties held a hearing on the Trump administration’s decision to revoke medical deferred action for critically ill children. Testifying before Congress were government officials, immigration advocates, and medical professionals, as well as two individuals directly impacted by medical deferred actions.

Witnesses in the first panel who spoke in support of medical deferred action testified on the impact of the revocation on vulnerable populations, while the minority witness testified that deferred actions are not law but determined on a case-by-case basis.

The second panel comprised representatives from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). They testified on the government’s decision in revoking deferred action status, citing that it is not law, but rater it is determined on a case-by-case basis. close
