Fans of the Magic City Classic are celebrating in big ways with Classic-themed events set to take place Oct. 21-29, 2023. Please see the list below of what different groups have posted on their flyers.

Also, if you are a licensed vendor or unlicensed vendor and you plan to sell food or other products during the Magic City Classic, you must have the proper licenses and permits to operate. Saturday, Oct. 21 

The Magic City Classic Kickoff Teen Summit & Charity Basketball Game, presented by the Smithfield Community Action Team, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1500 Daniel Payne Drive. Doors open at 9 a,m. Game will start at 2:30 p.m. Free admission. Panel discussions with local teens, leaders and guest speakers. Free breakfast and lunch. Sunday, Oct. 22  

Safe Summer Series Concert at Lawson Field on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. with Dru Hill, The Connection Band, Dani, and the Party Rockers. The Classic Old School Day Party, presented by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Omega Chapter and the Cultural and Education Advancement Foundation, Inc., will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Boutwell Auditorium.Ticketed event. 

 

Cigar Men of Distinction’s annual day party will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Lit on 8th from 2 to 7 p.m.

The Birmingham Public Library’s annual Classic Cocktails will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the downtown library. It will feature a tasting of locally distilled spirits, music from DJ Chris Coleman  of Birmingham’s  V94.9 FM,  tailgate food, a 360-photo booth, specialty cocktails and some surprises!  Event proceeds will fund programs at all BPL locations to help the library continue to provide high-quality  services. The Old School Magic City Classic Concert, presented by Jefferson County Commissioner Sheila Tyson, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 in the BJCC East Ballroom. 6 p.m. Free admission. Featuring Bobby Rush; Willie Clayton; V.I.C., the “The Wobble Guy;’’and DJ “Bad Boy Butch.”

 

INROADS presents The Inaugural Birmingham Awards Celebration, Commemorating Progress In the Pursuit of Equality, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Kress Building, 301 – 19th St. North. The mixer starts at 6 p.m. The awards ceremony will start at 7 p.m. The event will feature Forest T. Harper, Jr., president and CEO of INROADS; and Ed Fields, senior advisor and chief strategist for the Mayor’s Office in Birmingham. This event will celebrate INROADS students and alumni dedicated to racial equity and social justice.

The Greater Shelby County Alumni Chapter will host its Classic Kick-Off on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Chandelier Lounge, 212 Cahaba Valley Road in Pelham. There will be a DJ, karaoke and drink specials. 

 

Oak Street Health will host the “Ultimate Tailgate” for its senior citizen clients on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at Oak Street Health, 633 Tuscaloosa Ave. SW from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be food, entertainment and parking assistance. City of Birmingham’s Awaken Event, honoring the Carlton Reese Memorial Unity Choir, will be held on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Event starts at 10 a.m. Free. Area choirs will perform to salute this legend choir, which was born in 1959 to provide strength through music during the civil rights movement.
