Overman to Serve as Managing Partner of Office as Firm Celebrates 10 Years in D.C.

Washington, D.C. (June 15, 2022) – Bass, Berry & Sims is pleased to announce that Todd R. Overman, chair of the Government Contracts Practice, has been appointed to serve as the managing partner of the firm’s office in Washington, D.C., which opened in 2012 and now includes more than 30 attorneys.

“It is an honor to be selected for this role in an office with so many talented and experienced attorneys and respected leaders within our industry and community,” Overman said. “We are proud of the success and sustained growth our firm has had in such a competitive market over the last decade, and our focus going forward will be to maintain our strategic direction of growing and innovating to continue to ensure the most effective counsel possible for our clients.”

At the end of last year, the firm added seven highly-experienced healthcare regulatory attorneys to the D.C. office, and additional laterals are expected to join this year. Working for clients across the U.S. and around the world, attorneys in the office focus on antitrust, corporate, government contracts, healthcare, intellectual property, international trade, litigation and investigations, and real estate practices.

“We are excited for this new chapter of leadership in D.C.,” said Todd Rolapp, managing partner at Bass, Berry & Sims. “Todd is well recognized in his field and at our firm for his track record for effective leadership, legal acumen, client success and community service, and we are grateful to have him at the helm going forward.”

As chair of the firm’s Government Contracts Practice, Overman has two decades of experience advising companies in meeting the demanding and ever-changing regulatory environment of contracting with the federal government. Over the last decade, he has advised on more than 50 transactions involving the purchase or sale of a government contractor. In addition to his transactional work, he also counsels clients in litigating and mediating claims, bid protests and size protests before government agencies, as well as advising on corporate compliance and ethics programs.

Outside of his legal practice, Overman is a recognized leader with various professional organizations in his field. He has held several leadership roles with the American Bar Association’s Section of Public Contract Law, including as vice chair of the Commercial Products & Services Committee, vice chair of the Mergers & Acquisitions Committee, and co-chair of the Small Business & Other Socioeconomic Programs Committee. In the community, Overman serves on the board for McLean Little League and is a member emeritus on Vanderbilt Law School’s Board of Advisors.

Overman earned a law degree from Vanderbilt Law School (2002) and an undergraduate degree from Duke University (1997).
