Our Story

Our Story

【a-un no kokyuu】

GODS.png

阿吽の呼吸 【a-un no kokyuu】 which literally translates to "breath of a-un" is hailed from an old Japanese idiom, which means two people communicate to each other without saying anything; having a mutual understanding of one another.

Toshi and Kaku, who jointly started Wasan East Village in 2010, opened Wasan Brooklyn in 2015 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Over the next six years, as restaurant owners, they have strongly reaffirmed the sheer joy and importance of serving the local community through their cuisine.

Being partners and working together for a total of 11 years now, following the concept of "breath of a-un," they will aim to continue serving the local region through Japanese cuisines of different seasons. It will serve as a-un Brooklyn’s guiding philosophy.

Thank you.
