WiF Studies Journal

WIF Studies is a refereed journal published yearly in late fall by our association. WIF Studies is a member of the Council of Editors of Learned Journals. Articles published in our journal appear in the Modern Language Association Bibliography.

ARTICLES

• All of our members can submit articles pertaining to the study of women in French and Francophone literature and cultures. Articles are reviewed by our editorial board and decisions are usually sent back to authors in 3 month delay.
  In addition to refereed articles, we also publish the graduate essay written by the winner of the WIF Prize essay contest.

Submission:
* Articles may be written in English or in French. However, we highly recommend that you write your essay in the language in which you feel you can best convey your ideas
* Articles should not exceed twenty pages and should follow the MLA Style
* Articles submitted to WIF Studies should be original work and not be under consideration for publication elsewhere.
* Similarly, articles submitted to WIF Studies should not be previously published elsewhere. In special cases, there may be exceptions to this rule, but authors must contact the editor/s for information about these exceptions.
* Articles should be submitted with all form of identification removed, including in the document properties
* On a separate sheet, please also provide a brief summary of your contribution, your contact information and a short bio-bibliography
* Both documents should be submitted electronically to the Executive Editor Professor Marijn S. Kaplan at marijn.kaplan@unt.edu.

NB : Manuscripts in English or in French should be between 15 and 20 pages in length (double spaced, including notes and list of works cited). Please place the notes and the list of works cited at the end of the essay. We prefer that you keep notes to a minimum. Most references can be included in the body of the text. We follow the MLA Style Manual; if the essay is in French, please take into account the French typographical norms. For both languages, put titles of works in italics; do not underline. Keep extra formatting to a strict minimum. As a space-saver, only use one space after each sentence.

BOOK REVIEWS

‘Comptes rendus,’ the newest section of WIF Studies, is an important addition to our publication and we seek the collaboration of all interested parties.  These book reviews serve a multitude of functions: to promote recently-published work on women authors or on subjects of interest within the field of women’s studies and feminist studies; to improve women’s studies research by sharing our recommendations on publications with which members may not yet be familiar; to develop the CVs of the authors of these book reviews; and to occasionally permit junior researchers to gain a bit of experience before publishing their first professional articles in scholarly journals.

Because WIF Studies is a relatively new publication, at present, we only receive a few titles from major publishers.  Nonetheless, our list of available books should slowly, but surely grow.  (Don’t forget that many of you have submitted reviews of books that you had read, despite the fact that we did not carry the publications.) In order to give you the perfect morsel of potential authors and to facilitate your book selections, please consult the list of available books that we have to offer.

If you wish to acquire and review a specific book or if you wish to submit a review of a work that you particularly enjoyed (or not!), please note the following details:

2. Members: All WIF members with active status as of September 1 in a given year will automatically receive a copy of that year's issue of Women in French Studies.
