Army veteran becomes fifth Republican to challenge Rep. Cawthorn's seat

Another Republican is joining those challenging Rep. Madison Cawthorn.

Rod Honeycutt is an Army veteran with two Bronze Stars.

He graduated from Erwin High School and earned his Masters degree from Florida Institute of Technology.

Honeycutt says he will work hard for the men and women of Western North Carolina, listing on his website that defending the five primary rights given to every American in the U.S. Constitution as his top focus.

"Our Democracy was founded upon every citizen having the freedom of expression, religion, assembly, petition, and press. I will not support legislation reducing or limiting any portion of those five rights. This includes eliminating big tech company’s restrictions on the freedom of expression rights," Honeycutt's website states.

This grows the total field of candidates running in the 11th Congressional District race to 10.
