WCRP Climate Research Forum

Climate research priorities for the next decade

The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) leads the way in addressing frontier scientific questions about the coupled climate system — questions that are too large and too complex to be tackled by a single nation, agency, or scientific discipline. For almost 40 years WCRP has coordinated international climate research to advance our understanding of the climate system and how it is affected by human activities. The decades ahead will bring challenges that can only be addressed through a worldwide coordinated effort, involving co-design and stakeholder engagement conducted by a prepared scientific workforce, to support mitigation strategies and adaptation planning. This is one in a series of regional forums, where we will exchange ideas, discuss new activities and opportunities being developed by WCRP, and explore ways that our community of scientists, partner programs, funders, and end-users of our climate science can engage to meet these challenges.

This first forum in South America will include two days of discussions:

Foro de Investigación Climática del WCRP

Prioridades de investigación sobre el clima para la próxima década

El Programa Mundial de Investigaciones Climáticas (WCRP por sus siglas en inglés) conduce el tratamiento de las preguntas científicas fundamentales sobre el sistema climático acoplado, preguntas demasiado amplias y complejas para ser abordadas por un solo país, organismo o disciplina científica. Durante casi 40 años, el WCRP ha coordinado la investigación internacional sobre el clima para avanzar en la comprensión del sistema climático y de cómo éste se ve afectado por las actividades humanas. Las décadas que se avecinan traerán consigo retos que sólo podrán ser abordados mediante el esfuerzo coordinado de una comunidad científica internacional preparada, y el co-diseño de estrategias de mitigación y adaptación al cambio climático con tomadores de decisión. Este foro es parte de una serie de foros regionales, donde intercambiaremos ideas, discutiremos nuevas actividades y oportunidades que están siendo promovidas por el WCRP, y exploraremos las formas en que nuestra comunidad de científicos, programas asociados, financiadores y usuarios finales de nuestra ciencia climática pueden comprometerse para enfrentar estos desafíos.
