As we continue to monitor the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (WCO) will be postponing our March performances. Our top priority is always the health and safety of our performers, volunteers, staff and guests. We are following the lead of our public health officials, implementing their recommended actions.

The events that are postponed are as follows:

March 14h – Beethoven Lives Next Door, Goodman Community Center

March 27th– Masterworks 3, Capitol Theater

March 29th– Beethoven Lives Next Door, Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts

Should a guest request a ticket exchange or refund for a performance, we will of course honor that request. The situation with COVID-19 has put musicians and other freelance artists in a vulnerable financial position. The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra is deeply committed to its members, and as such, will be offering some form of compensation during this difficult period. Proceeds from tickets that are donated back will be used to offset these costs.

We continue to work on planning, preparation and communication, and health authorities continue to emphasize the importance of best practices to mitigate the disease. The CDC recommends that individuals engage in everyday preventative measures to stop the spread of germs and avoid illness such as:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water (or hand sanitizer) for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching eyes, mouth and nose with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with individuals who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick for at least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever or signs of a fever.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then immediately discard the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Stay informed by visiting our local, state, and federalhealth websites

For our upcoming performances at the Capitol Theater, a few of the additional measures that Overture will implement, or will soon as supplies are available, include:

  • Supplying hand sanitizing stations at key areas of the building.
  • Implementing safer ticket scanning measures. (gloves, sanitizers, cleaning)
  • Sanitizing shared equipment such as radios and assistive listening devices.
  • Supplying sanitizing wipes throughout the building and backstage areas.
  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning critical areas, and regularly sanitizing door handles and knobs, elevator buttons, arm rests, hand rails, etc.

We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will follow all recommendations of public health officials. We are prepared to reschedule future shows if necessary for the safety of customers, musicians, and staff, and will keep everyone informed in the coming weeks.
