Research and Programs
The Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) applies a research-to-action-to-impact approach to address exposure to and impact of violence in the lives of the youth and families we serve by developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based programs and initiatives. CVP’s programming provides the right preventive or therapeutic intervention to the right person in the right place at the right time. With additional funding, our goal is to disseminate our program models more broadly in the future.
CVP’s programming aims to promote healing at every opportunity for our health system to intervene during a child’s lifespan:
Bullying Prevention
CVP's evidence-based bullying prevention programs teach children the skills needed to prevent bullying in schools by understanding feelings, recognizing social cues, and being positive bystanders.
Community Violence and Trauma Support
Through our trauma-informed model, the Community Violence and Trauma Support Programs promote physical and emotional health and safety for youth and families impacted by trauma and/or violence.
Intimate Partner Violence Prevention
STOP IPV is a multi-component, collaborative program, jointly supported by CHOP and Lutheran Settlement House (LSH). STOP IPV is designed to address intimate partner violence and teen dating violence, while also considering the impact of child abuse and community violence on individuals and families.
Gun Safety
The prevalence of guns in the U.S. is staggering – approximately 4.6 million children and teens live in a home with a loaded, unlocked gun. Experts at CHOP have introduced a gun safety device distribution program in the Emergency Department, which also provides gun safety education to families.
Suicide Prevention
CHOP's CVP aims to strengthen CHOP’s youth suicide prevention efforts and increase patients’ access to mental health services.
Affiliated Programs
