Biography

Dr. Maria Villegas, MD, is a Board Certified Dermatologist at UT Health RGV. With over 9 years of providing advanced skin, hair, and nail care to patients, Dr. Villegas uses the latest medical advancements in dermatology to improve the quality of life for children and adults in the RGV.

As a Dermatology specialist at UT Health RGV, Dr. Villegas offers diagnostic and treatment in dermatology for children and adults, cutaneous surgery, basic dermatopathology, and cosmetic therapy.

Procedures include but not limited to skin biopsies, cryotherapy, skin cancer surgery, electrodessication and curettage, nail biopsies, intralesional therapy, botulinum toxin injections for axillary and palmar hyperhidrosis, and patch testing.

Other areas of cosmetic treatment include Botox®, rhinophyma surgery, chemical peels, skin tag removals, seborrheic keratosis removal and treatment, and removal of Epidermal Inclusion cysts, lipomas, and other benign skin growths.

Dr. Villegas is also a diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology and provides a personalized patient care plan and a variety of educational resources to ensure patients can make the most educated choice about their health care.

Dr. Villegas received her Medical Degree (M.D.) from University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in 2007 and later completed her Dermatology Residency training at UTHSCSA in 2011. Dr. Villegas joined the UTRGV School of Medicine Faculty in May of 2020 and currently serves as the Division Chief of Dermatology and Assistant Professor of Surgery, educating and training the next generation of leaders in medicine, research, and patient care.
