Lunchtime Zoom Conversation with Islam Aly

Jane Carlin and Amanda C. Clark are delighted
to welcome Islam Aly to our lunchtime conversation series.

Islam is a book artist and Design lecturer at Helwan University College of Art Education. His journey in the arts began with a Bachelors degree in Art Education, followed by a Masters from the same institution. Motivated to advance his academic pursuits, he completed a Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Art Education at the University of Iowa. During his study at the University of Iowa, Islam specialized in book arts and obtained an MFA in the field.

His academic background and artistic training have significantly influenced his distinctive approach to crafting artist books. Islam's creative work converges at the intersection of culture, technology, and aesthetics. He investigates the potential of traditional bookbinding techniques within contemporary book art. Through his art pieces, Islam experiments with adapting historical bookbinding methods to incorporate digital technologies resulting in a unique artistic expression and at the same time expanding the boundaries of book artistry.

Islam will share experiences from the recent Tokyo and Cair art book fairs and talk about Codex 2024.

This is a PSBA Zoom conversation, free and open to all.

Feb 15, 2024 from 12:00 to 1:00PM.

Registrants will receive a Zoom Link February 12, 2024 and a reminder shortly before the event.
