YOUTH EQUITY PODCAST: AMPLIFYING YOUTH VOICE FOR CHANGE

History UnErased and Houses on the Moon Theater Company have teamed up for our youth equity programming, a semester-long podcasting project designed to help NYC high school students express, shape, and share remarkable stories from their lives!

We believe real human stories spark transformation and that students' unheard stories have the power to create real change in our world. Our pilot season dropped on July 2nd, 2022. Have a listen!

  • Ep 1
  • Ep 1: "Don't Say Gay?" Featuring Prism Club Students from Aviation High School
  • Ep 2
  • Ep 2: "Art Class Matters!" Featuring Students from the Bronx High School for the Visual Arts

Our youth equity programming fosters youth empowerment and uses a dynamic mix of personal story-telling, documentary interviews, creative writing, and games to guide students in the development of a podcast series exploring equity and inclusion in their worlds. Houses on the Moon and History UnErased provide creative work sessions to support students in interview technique, script-writing, story and sound editing, recording, and music and sound design.

ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATIONS

History UnErased logo

History UnErased's mission is to bring LGBTQ US history, as it intersects with race, gender, and nationality, into the mainstream curriculum to ensure all students learn a more complete, complex, and empowering story of America.

Since 2017, History UnErased has been providing NYCDOE educators with the training and resources they need to integrate and/or support our LGBTQ-inclusive K-12 curriculum. View the calendar of virtual PD with 150+ digital, interactive instructional materials for K-12 classrooms (FREE with CTLEs) here.

History UnErased's Intersections and Connections curriculum is a whole-school approach and includes three intertwined components: professional learning, ongoing mentorship, and our growing library of digital LGBTQ-inclusive primary-source-based instructional resources. These components work together to provide schools with the supports they need to teach all students a more accurate reflection of who "We the people" includes, which is paving the way for lasting societal change that is welcoming and safe for all LGBTQ people.

Houses on the Moon logo

Houses on the Moon Theater Company (HOTM) was founded in 2001 with a mission to dispel ignorance and isolation through the theatrical amplification of unheard voices.

Through creative workshops, original performances in Off-Broadway and non-traditional venues, post-show conversations, and accessible ticketing, HOTM brings communities together through the public sharing of untold stories. Over the past twenty years, HOTM has created nine original pieces. Learn more here.

All HOTM projects are created through a unique development process that prioritizes deep engagement and long-term collaboration with the communities whose stories we tell. Through this process we create theater that is both artistically original and of service; high-quality theater presented on the professional stage and also employed by communities as a tool for civic engagement, education, support, and professional training around the complex issues of our time.
