INSPIRE A NEW CLASS OF LEADERS

Our scholarships are made possible by the generosity of Hispanic/Latino Gator alumni who want to pave the way for other Hispanic/Latino students to receive a world-class education at the University of Florida. The UF-AHA proudly offers three different scholarship opportunities for UF students. Applications are released in the spring of every year, and scholarship winners are announced at the Gator Guayabera Guateque.

DR. RAFAEL AND MRS. J. FE PADRON DE ANGULO SCHOLARSHIP

The Dr. Rafael and Mrs. J. Fe Padron de Angulo Scholarship honors the memory, dedication, and service of a couple who positively influenced the Gainesville Hispanic/Latino community for decades. Together, the Angulos opened their home to many, creating a safe space and home-away-from-home. In their memory, the Angulo Scholarship seeks to recognize students who excel in leadership, service, and scholarship at school and within the Hispanic/Latino community. The Angulo scholarship awards four deserving students (undergraduate or graduate) attending/planning to attend the University of Florida with $1,000. Interested students must submit a complete application, which includes their resume/CV, a letter of recommendation, a short essay, and a copy of their transcript(s).

Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship

The Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship recognizes the importance of hard work and dedication. As a West Point graduate, Colonel Farris had a distinguished military career capped off by his final duty as a member of the University of Florida Army ROTC cadre. Following his retirement, he spent ten years (1963-1973) at UF as a Foreign Student Advisor, ultimately assisting hundreds of exiled Cubans with gaining admission to UF. The Farris scholarship will award four $1,500 to deserving undergraduate or graduate students with demonstrated leadership, service and scholarship within the Hispanic-Latino community and the University of Florida (or their current institution). To apply, students must demonstrate financial need, and complete an application that requires the submission of a resume/CV, a letter of recommendation, a short essay, and a copy of their transcripts.

Scanziani Family’s Esperanza Garcia-Loynaz Memorial Scholarship

The Scanziani Family’s Esperanza Garcia-Loynaz Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Ms. Esperanza Garcia-Loynaz. Ms. Garcia-Loynaz migrated to the United States from Cuba as a result of the Cuban Revolution in the 1950’s. She settled and started her family in Miami, Florida. Esperanza was a loving mother of five children who valued higher education. Esperanza’s family joined the Gator Nation when her younger brother attended the University of Florida followed by three of her daughters. The Esperanza Garcia-Loynaz Memorial Scholarship will be awarded on a yearly basis to an admitted UF Law student who also attended UF for his or her undergraduate studies. This scholarship application requires a copy of your LSAT Score Report, as the recipient will have achieved the highest score amongst all applicants meeting the above criteria.

ADELANTE CAIMÁN SCHOLARSHIP

Adelante (Spanish): Ahead, Onwards. The Adelante Caiman scholarship was established to support immigrant students who strive to get ahead and onwards with their educational ambitions but are unable to obtain federal or state financial support to make those goals a reality. These students embody the spirit of the American dream: overcoming many barriers, working hard to repay their parents’ sacrifices, and often being the first of their family to get into college. With the rising costs of a postsecondary education, lack of access to federal and state financial aid (including federal loans) can often prove to be an insurmountable obstacle to many. As UF Hispanic-Latinx alumni, we hope this scholarship provides support to the next generation to surpass the challenges of today in the same way that many alumni have overcome the challenges of our time.
Adelante Caiman will award $2,500 to an immigrant student who graduated from a US high school or obtained a high school equivalency diploma from the US and has resided in the United States for at least the past two years, but who is not eligible for  federal financial aid or state financial aid in the state of Florida (for example Pell Grants, Work Study, Federal Student Loans, Florida Bright Futures, and Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars). This student must be well-rounded and excel in service, and scholarship at the University of Florida and in the Hispanic-Latino community.

GATORS UNIDOS SCHOLARSHIP

The Gators Unidos Scholarship (GUS) Fund Award was created to bridge a connection between previous generations of Latino Gator Alumni to the next. Each year, a select number of undergraduate and graduate upperclassmen LatinX University of Florida Gators will receive the distinction of being recipients of the GUS award; granting them $2,500 financial aid per recipient, access to professional development resources, entered into our sponsorship program for one year, and a select number of students who apply will receive access to a peer network of Latino Alumni to leverage upon through their time at UF and beyond.

his scholarship will be distributed through the UF Association of Hispanic Alumni.
