When Governor Whitmer announced that Michigan school districts would be closing in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ACF sprang into action to figure out how Michigan children could continue being fed during this crisis. One week later, the Million Meal Challenge launched in partnership with Farm Bureau Insurance and Michigan Farm Bureau.

In the span of one week, Michigan Farm Bureau agents, staff, members and insureds came together with a goal to donate one million meals to Michigan families in need. According to the Food Bank Council of Michigan, one-dollar donated equals six meals. The Agent Charitable Fund and Farm Bureau Insurance both donated $50,000 to the campaigns and matched all online donations dollar-for-dollar. After one week, we raised $187,405 for Michigan food banks, or over 1.1 million meals.

The Million Meal Challenge was truly a family of companies effort, with nearly 60 percent of donations coming from FB agents and staff. More than $14,000 was donated by county farm bureaus and members from around the state stepped up to show their support through gifts.

The Agent Charitable Fund would like to thank each and every donor who made a gift to support the Million Meal Challenge. We appreciate all the staff and agents who helped share our message with clients and those who engaged in the fundraiser in fun and creative ways. Together, we made an impact in Michigan for thousands of families struggling with food insecurity. We couldn’t have done it without you!
