“Today, Governor Abbott brought Texas one step closer to the total abolition of abortion in our state,” said Sarah Zarr, Texas and Southern Regional Manager for Students for Life and Students for Life Action. “We urge the Texas legislature and Governor Abbott to shepherd the remaining pro-life protections of this session to completion so that as many children, women, and families as possible are guaranteed protection and dignity.”

AUSTIN, T.X., and WASHINGTON, D.C. (05-19-2021) – Today, Sarah Zarr of Students for Life and Students for Life Action witnessed Governor Abbott’s signing of SB 8, the Texas Heartbeat Bill, which protects children from abortion when their heartbeats are detected by ultrasound. Sarah was joined by SFLAction Texas State Captain and student leader, Rachel Schroder.

SFLAction celebrates the Texas Heartbeat victory, and urges the Texas House to pass Senate Bill 1647, the Texas Abolition Strategy, to protect children from abortion violence from the moment of fertilization. SFLAction urges others to amplify this call to pass the Texas Abolition Strategy. SFLAction also continues to urge the passage of the Human Life Protection Act.

Sarah Zarr and the Students for Life Action team have tirelessly organized and deployed boots-on-the-ground action to rescue children and protect women and families in 2021 through the passage of pro-life legislation and an historic Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance in Lubbock, TX. SFLAction deployed student leaders in Lubbock who knocked on nearly 4,000 doors, sent nearly 20,000 text messages and made 5,000 phone calls to Lubbock residents urging support for Proposition A, the city’s Sanctuary for the Unborn ordinance, which passed by a sweeping margin of 62% to 38%.

In fact, today’s Heartbeat bill signing comes two days after the Planned Parenthood abortion vendor announced it is suing the city of Lubbock for the right to kill children there. Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins responded to Planned Parenthood’s challenge saying of Lubbock, “Their city. Their choice.” Planned Parenthood initiated this lawsuit against Lubbock just days after giving up on its lawsuit against the state of Texas, which kicked the abortion vendor out of the Medicaid program for violations of federal law caught on camera by investigative journalists of the Center for Medical Progress. Through these actions, Planned Parenthood disqualified itself from Medicaid, and has given up fighting the state to be readmitted to the program.

Texas has passed numerous, strong bills this session that will protect children and women from the abortion industry. SFLAction has offered testimonies in support of pro-life bills and lobbied senators to vote pro-life, and generated nearly 60,000 personal emails to legislators in support of pro-life legislation this year. SFLAction will remain engaged in the state until every child is protected and welcomed.
