Mexico's annual inflation rate was largely unchanged at 4.42% in March 2024, compared to 4.4% in February and below market forecasts of 4.5%. Prices advanced faster for housing & utilities (3.35% vs 2.97% in February), transportation (4.16% vs 3.99%), recreation & culture (2.79% vs 2.62%), and restaurants & hotels (6.95% vs 6.88%). Conversely, inflation mainly eased for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.96% vs 5.07%), alcoholic beverages & tobacco (4.78% vs 5.12%), clothing & footwear (3.13% vs 3.29%), and health (5.19% vs 5.5%). Meanwhile, prices fell further for communications (-1.83% vs -1.54%). The annual core inflation rate eased for the 14th straight month to 4.55% in March, the lowest since May 2021, down from 4.64% in the prior month. Monthly, the CPI rose by 0.29% in March, up from a 0.09% increase in the prior month but still lower than the market's anticipated 0.36% rise.

Mexico Inflation Rate Slows to 4.4% in February
Mexico's annual inflation rate eased to 4.40% in February 2024, down from a seven-month high of 4.88% in January and broadly in line with market forecasts of 4.42%. The slowdown in overall inflation was mainly driven by prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (5.07% vs 7.28% in January); miscellaneous goods & services (6.59% vs 6.91%); restaurants & hotels (6.88% vs 6.96%) and education (6.40% vs 6.64%). Furthermore, prices fell further for communications (-1.54% vs -1%). The annual core inflation rate eased for the 13th straight month to 4.64% in February, the lowest since June 2021, down from 4.76% in the prior month. Monthly, the CPI went up by 0.09% in February, after a 0.89% increase in the prior month and almost in line with market estimates of a 0.11% rise.
