Chloé G. Pedersen for Board of Governors

Biography

Chloé G. Pedersen

If we have not yet met, my name is Chloé G. Pedersen. As one of your current (or fellow) Assembly Members from Cook and an appointed Board of Governors member, I would be honored to have and would greatly appreciate your vote in the 2023 Illinois State Bar Association’s (ISBA) election for the Board of Governors (Cook) position.

My legal experiences include working in both public and private practice. I am currently an equity partner with the national law firm of Fletcher & Sippel LLC where I lead the labor and employment practice group. Prior to, I was Chief Legal & Labor Counsel for the Cook County Recorder, served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Illinois Attorney General’s Government Representation Division, worked as Assistant Counsel to the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, and as an Associate Attorney at Querrey & Harrow, Ltd. From the member benefits of working on legislation and issues that have made a real impact on the public and our profession, to the practical ways the ISBA nurtures and connects throughout our state, I would not have succeeded in these career transitions without the support and guidance of the ISBA.

I have served the ISBA and its members in many ways throughout the years through service on various ISBA Committees and Section Councils with events, CLEs, newsletter and journal articles, and mentorship. In more recent years I have served as a member of the Women and the Law Committee, and the Standing Committee on Legislation. I have also had the privilege of serving in leadership roles through the Steering Committee on Racial Inequality as co-chair of its legislative sub-committee, the ISBA Assembly, and as a Board Liaison to the Employee Benefits Section Council, Health Care Section Council, and the Labor & Employment Law Section Council. In 2021, I was appointed to the Board of Governors. Since then, I have greatly enjoyed learning the inner workings of the Association and I have worked hard to make it better and more inclusive for our members. It would be my utmost pleasure to continue to serve the great members of the ISBA through election to the Board.

My other leadership roles and experiences have included serving as a Commissioner for the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission and serving on the board of the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) where I chaired numerous events and committees including starting its lawyer-to-lawyer mentoring program. I was previously the treasurer for the Chicago Spirit Brigade a 501(c)(3) non-profit community-based fundraising organization whose purpose is to raise money and awareness for non-profit groups that provide direct care services to individuals with life-altering challenges. I was also a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism’s Mentor Expansion Committee, the Vice-Chair of the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association’s (ASLRRA) Human Resources Committee, and a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Competitive Dance Officials Ad Hoc Committee; where I am proud to have contributed to IHSA’s recognition of Competitive Dance as a sport. Awards: 2013 Advocate for Diversity Award – Diversity Scholarship Foundation; WBAI Service Award (2015-2016); Rising Star- Illinois SuperLawyers (2015-2022).

I am committed to continuing to serve the ISBA to ensure it continues to meet and exceed our member’s needs. You may reach me at cpedersen@fletcher-sippel.com or 630-254-4262 with any questions, comments, or ideas.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Issue Statement

I believe serving our profession and the public to be fundamental responsibilities for lawyers. To this end, I have found that my membership in the ISBA has been a very rewarding investment. If elected as a Board member, my goal would be to continue to help the Association retain and attract members through recognition and service of their needs, and by providing relevant and timely content and programming to address our ever-changing practice.
