Joining the ReusePass Program

Q: How does the ReusePass program work and how do I join?

Students, staff, and faculty can participate in the ReusePass program. The program makes checking out a reusable container a lot like checking out a library book!

To participate, first ensure you have the latest version of the Grubhub app. Next, use Grubhub to order a to-go meal from a participating dining location by selecting the ‘ReusePass’ version of the shop. Before placing your first reusable to-go order in Grubhub, you’ll be asked to acknowledge the terms and conditions of the program.

Once you’ve opted in and placed your first reusable to-go order, you’ll get access to your ReusePass account. From there, each time you order to-go at a participating ‘ReusePass’ location, you’ll see a link to your ReusePass account and return information on Grubhub’s order tracking page.

A dining hall team member will associate the reusable container(s) with your account – just like checking out a library book!

Q: What is ReusePass and how do I access my account?

ReusePass is a web application that helps you track and manage which reusable containers you need to return. When you place your first reusable to-go order via Grubhub, a ReusePass account will automatically be created for you.

You can access your account at any time by going to app.reusepass.com/csu and logging in using using the mobile number associate with your GH account.

Q: I have an international phone number, can I still participate in the ReusePass program?

We don’t currently support international phone numbers, but don’t worry, you can still participate in the ReusePass program! Sign up for Google Voice and get a free phone number - you can use this phone number to order from a ReusePass shop in Grubhub and log in to ReusePass. ReusePass is tied to the phone number in your Grubhub account and cannot be shared across ReusePass accounts.

Returning Containers

Q: Where and how do I return my container?

Returning containers is easy! Simply compost remaining food scraps in the food waste bins then drop your empty container in the Reuse Return bins on campus. You can find return bin locations by navigating to your ReusePass account and clicking on “see return locations”.

Containers are due back 3 days after checkout. Containers that have not been returned by the end of the 3-day checkout window will be marked as late. ReusePass will send you reminders when you have late containers to return them. Once a container is late, you have 48 hours to return it. Containers that are not received by the end of the late window will be marked as unreturned.

Q: How long does it take for my container to show as received after I’ve dropped it in a return bin?

Containers are typically scanned by the dining team within 24hrs of drop-off, but it can sometimes take longer, especially over the weekend. If you’ve dropped your container(s) in a return bin before the due date, don’t worry, you’ve done your part! Once your container is scanned in by the dining team, it will appear as received in your account.

Q: What happens if I can’t return my container within the 3-day window?

Returning your container within the 3-day window helps ensure sustainable practices for the reuse program, but we know it isn’t always doable - life happens! That’s why we offer a 48hr “late” period where you can still return your container(s) before they are marked as unreturned.

Q: Why is there a 3-day checkout window?

The 3-day window exists to encourage Reusers to return their containers in a timely fashion, so they can get washed and reused. This ensures the efficiency and workflow of the Reuse program, helping create a healthier and happier planet 🌍

Q: Can I still return my container after it’s been marked as “unreturned”?

Yes! Even if you haven’t returned your container within the checkout or late period, we still want your container back so it can go back into the reuse ecosystem ♻️

Q: Can I order more food through ReusePass if I already have a container rented out?
