The School-Parent Compact is an agreement that parents* and school staff develop to explain how they will communicate and work as a team to ensure that students are able to make significant academic gains during the school year. Parents, teachers, and administrators should review it annually to determine if revisions are needed.

Effective Compacts should
:- Describe how teachers will help students develop academic skills using high-quality instruction in a supportive learning environment
- Share specific strategies parents can use at home to reinforce instruction
- Highlight opportunities for parents to volunteer in the classroom and participate in decisions relating to their child's education
- Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress and educational needs
*The term "parent" refers to the adult(s) who have taken responsibility for raising a child, including birth parents, adoptive parents, grandparents, stepparents, foster parents, and legal guardians.
