ClearVue Technologies has secured a key US agreement for the manufacture, sale and marketing of products using its innovative glazing technology that generates renewable power in windows and commercial building glass façades. The wide-ranging agreement with leading US glazing and window installation company, Graboyes Commercial Window and Glass Solutions, will initially see Graboyes manufacture and distribute windows and façades for secondary schools and universities in the US.

ClearVue says its smart solar glass façades that combine carbon dioxide sensors that allow the windows to automatically vent are of particular importance in the collaboration as Graboyes works towards upgrading US educational facilities to bring in more fresh air and reduce reliance on traditional air-conditioning.

The venting systems are autonomously powered by the energy generated from ClearVue’s two proprietary products that can be embedded into any window glass during the manufacturing stage.

The first is a thin transparent film that is placed between two panes of glass in a double glazed window. The second is a type of solar panel strip that is fitted around the edges of a window glass.

The film soaks up energy from the sun and radiates it outwards to the solar strips that convert it to useable power.

The five-year agreement, with a possibility of another two terms of the same length, will see Graboyes act as an exclusive manufacturer and distributor of products ladened with ClearVue’s technology in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Graboyes will also have sole distribution rights in the entire US for ClearVue’s self-powered smart façades with ventilation functionality.

In conjunction, Graboyes will also hold non-exclusive rights to distribute other ClearVue products across the entire US until ClearVue secures an alternate distributor in other US states.

ClearVue says the cooperation with Graboyes enables it to tap into the commercial building market in the greater Philadelphia region in Pennsylvania whilst acting as a steppingstone for developing its product credentials in the broader US market.

We are very pleased to be working with Graboyes to bring ClearVue glazing’s dual benefits of insulation and renewable power generation to the northeastern US, where there is a strong focus on energy efficiency and using technology to solve some of the problems brought about by the climate crisis and where there is a strong recognition of the need to decarbonize construction across the board.

The agreement with Graboyes has an initial focus on upgrading ventilation of education facilities which are re-opening post COVID-19 across the US and demonstrates yet another use case for the application of the ClearVue product. By combining the ClearVue electricity generating windows with our smart façade control, sensors and third-party automatic ventilation solution creates the opportunity for a relatively straightforward retrofit with relatively lower electrical and installation costs.

ClearVue Technologies Executive Chairman, Victor Rosenberg

Graboyes President and Chief Executive Officer, Ellis Guiles added:

“We are focused on assisting building owners and their construction industry partners in the creation of efficient, healthy, and safe buildings. ClearVue’s combined energy efficient, energy generating glazing is a next generation technology that fits well into our growing portfolio of glazing, efficiency, onsite generation, and ancillary grid services solutions. We are very pleased to be partnering with ClearVue for part of its US activities and rollout.”

Based in Pennsylvania, Graboyes brings to the table more than 37 years of industry experience in commercial glazing and fenestration in the region.

Its product offerings include movable interior glass office partitions, window wall systems and high-performance storefront solutions.

Together with its sister companies, Graboyes assists its clients in creating sustainable high-performance buildings under the ‘metered energy efficiency transaction structure’, or “MEETS”.

According to ClearVue, MEETS allows for energy efficiency to be generated, bought and sold much like electricity itself. It enables higher net asset value and lower operational costs for the building owner, whilst also providing more comfortable indoor environments for the occupants.

ClearVue appears to have dipped its toe into the massive US commercial building market through its partnership with Graboyes. Pundits will likely be keeping a close eye on the Perth-based company as it looks to distribute its innovative products on an even larger scale in the rest of the nation.
