A school district in California is asking students' parents to house educators due to increased costs of housing.

The Milpitas Unified School District sent out online forms to parents in the district that read:

"Do you have a room for rent? Please fill out this form and our MUSD educators who are seeking a room to rent will be notified. The rest is up to you."

According to The Washington Post, ten teachers from the Milpitas Unified School District quit their jobs at the end of June because they simply could not afford to pay for housing. These teachers ended up finding jobs in areas where the cost of living was cheaper.

The continued loss of staff is what led the school district officials to make a desperate attempt to keep their educators.

According to World Population Review, the average household in Milpitas makes $154,559 but according to information from the school district, teachers' annual salaries for the district are as low as $68,000.

What's more, Redfin real estate reports on their website that "in July 2022, Milpitas home prices were up 1.6% compared to last year, selling for a median price of $1.3M. On average, homes in Milpitas sell after 19 days on the market compared to 12 days last year. There were 31 homes sold in July this year, down from 76 last year."
