I am a research fellow at INGENIO (Valencia, Spain), and a lecturer at the University of Oxford for the Msc in Sustainable Urban Development.  My research interests are in regional development, politics and development, inequality, and innovation.

I have focused in my research on the experiences of less developed regions, primarily in Europe. My aim has been to understand what is unique or distinctive about their innovation dynamics, their institutional setups and how (or whether) policy can help to change their growth paths.

Aside from my interests in academic research, I have always sought to engage with other stakeholders at the regional, national, european and other international levels.

I have used the case study as my main methodology and I am generally interested on how qualitative methodologies can contribute to a deep and contextual understanding of places. I have also more recently been working with colleagues on an evaluation of cohesion policy in the EU using text mining techniques and econometric analysis. Results to come soon (hopefully!).
