NY-MEP SNAPPYXO Robotics Camp
Free Virtual Robotics Camp
for Students in 7th-12th grades
Pre-camp week (July 26-30; self-driven) + August 2-August 13, 2021 (instructional)
The Manufacturing and Technology Resource Consortium (MTRC), one of the ten regional centers of the New York Manufacturing Extension Partner (NY MEP) program, and Mechanismic Inc. are offering a two-weeks long Virtual Robotics camp with a fully paid scholarship to the accepted 7th to 12th grade students. The Robotics Camp from August 2-13, 2021 is open to all qualified students from the 10 regions of the NY MEP program throughout the State of New York for the first time. There is no cost to apply or attend the program, if accepted.
Application
Apply for the program and scholarship ASAP as we will stop accepting applications after we have received a reasonable number of applications. Our criteria for acceptance will be student's essay, GPA, teacher's recommendation, motivation and interest, ability to work independently and in a team while demonstrating maturity with online studies. Students will be asked to submit aforementioned documents.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but we expect to fill all positions in a short time after the portal opens. Students from underrepresented school districts are encouraged to apply.
Before applying, please check out the logistics of the camp and expectations from the students. However, the most important item for you to remember is that you are committing a pre-camp week of self-driven activities as assigned by the teaching team followed by two weeks of intense robot design, building, and programming.
Highlights
Full Scholarship for all accepted students ($2,000 value). We will admit at most 30 students this summer in the program. There is no cost to apply or attend the program if accepted.
Completion Certificate and a comprehensive Robot kit and learning material to keep at the end of the camp
Learn Engineering Design, Hands-on electronics, and Microcontroller programming
Project- and inquiry-based learning
Design and Build Robots using a new and intuitive Robotics platform SnappyXO Design
End of the camp virtual showcase with friends and family on the last day of the camp
Taught and Led by Stony Brook Engineering Professors and students
History
This will be the first camp of its kind now being offered to students from all over the NY-state. This program is set upon the foundation of three successful MTRC Robotics camps. The first year of the MTRC camp was offered in the summer of 2018 at the Composite Prototyping Center of Long Island. In 2019, it was offered on Stony Brook University campus and at the Carle Place High School to 51 students from 35 different school districts in Long Island. In 2020, the camp was offered virtually to 30 students.
Camp Location: online
This year, due to COVID-19, the camp programming will be offered completely online via zoom and google classroom using flipped format or an equivalent platform.
