  7. Extreme polarization, the rise of “fake news” and questions about the value of “facts” dominate today’s the political climate in America today. Given this backdrop, write an essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, that offers concrete recommendations for how news media outlets can improve levels of trust with the diverse—and often disparate—constituencies within their communities. You should include the evidence or rationale that supports your recommendations and cite, whenever possible, specific examples of the ways in which news media practices have improved or hindered relationships between journalists and their communities.
  8. Write a second essay, not to exceed 500 words, on the topic, “After you graduate, what kind of an impact would you like to have as a journalist?”
