Energize Denver Hub - Existing Buildings

Denver is at the cutting edge of addressing climate change. Our regulations and programs improve energy performance in commercial and multifamily buildings. And we do this work while always keeping equity as a priority.

The Energize Denver Hub is your one-stop shop for understanding your requirements and finding resources to help you. When building owners electrify their HVAC systems and improve energy performance, Denver will:

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions from commercial and multifamily buildings by 80% by 2040
Lower energy bills for building owners and tenants
Improve indoor air quality and comfort for building users

Building performance and electrification standards are new to everyone in the building industry. We are working to roll out the resources you need to help you with this transition. We are always working to post more resources here, so check back often!

Buildings 25,000 sq. ft. or Larger

Buildings 25,000 sq. ft. or larger must submit annual benchmarking data. They must also meet specific energy efficiency requirements. Learn about the requirements and how you can make sure you get into and stay in compliance.

Buildings 5,000-24,999 sq. ft.

Buildings between 5,000 and 24,999 sq. ft. are required to meet lighting or renewable energy requirements. Learn more about the requirements and find out how you can succeed in making updates to your building.

Buildings Under 5,000 sq. ft.

Existing buildings under 5,000 sq. ft. are not subject to any Performance Requirements. However, they are still subject to the requirements to partially electrify their buildings when replacing gas-fired heating and cooling equipment at the end of system life.
