Torrington seeks nominations

The Torrington High

School Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee is seeking nominations for its 27th class of inductees.

The committee will accept nominations for persons who have made a significant contribution to Torrington High athletics as a player, coach, administrator or community supporter.

Nomination forms are available by calling or texting Pat at 860-3071650 or email patfair1950@ gmail.com, and are due March 1.

Rybakina to meet Sabalenka in final

Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has reached her second final in the past three Grand Slam tournaments by beating Victoria Azarenka 7-6 (4), 6-3 at the Australian Open.

Azarenka was the champion at Melbourne Park in 2012 and 2013.

Rybakina will take on No. 5 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in Saturday’s final. Sabalenka reached her first Grand Slam title match by defeating unseeded Magda Linette, 76 (1), 6-2, in the semifinals.

Post men, women sweep Bridgeport

David Jasson scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Harrison Warnock added 14 points and 12 boards as the Post University men’s basketball team beat the University of Bridgeport, 83-67, on Wednesday in CACC action for its fourth straight win.

TiJanae Simmons and Tyara McQueen each scored 21 points off the bench, and the Post University women’s basketball team came away with a 100-61 win over Bridgeport on Wednesday in CACC play.

The 100 points were the most the Eagles scored since the 2019-20 season when they scored 101 points in a win over Goldey-Beacom.
