Increased visitation puts increased pressure on the Gorge’s limited resources. Always have a Plan B and a Plan C in case your destination is too crowded or closed.
Reservations for Dog Mountain now open
Dog Mountain Day Use Area and Trailhead is well known for its spring-blooming yellow balsamroot meadows. A permit is required to park at the Dog Mtn Trailhead on Saturdays and Sundays from April 27 – June 16 and Memorial Day. If there are no permits available, hikers may take the shuttle from Stevenson and a hand stamp will serve as your hiking permit.
Visit Car-Free with the Columbia Gorge Express
Sit back and enjoy the amazing views with one of the many shuttles leaving Portland each day for Multnomah Falls, Cascade Locks, Hood River or any of the great trails and unique towns linked by transit. No permits or reservations needed when you arrive by transit.
Smoke Ready Gorge
During fire season in the Gorge (June – Oct), the smoke can turn on you. Now there is a new website that gives real-time air quality readings from the many monitors around the Gorge. It includes maps with hazard level and a sign up for emergency alerts.
