The HISTORY:
Vandevanter Meats has been a longstanding family-owned business established in 1945, that over 300 producers rely on annually. At current capacity Vandevanter averages 950 head, and employs 10 full time employees. Vandevanter also owns and operates Montana Jerky Co., a successfully and regionally distributed brand.
Why we started a CO-OP:
The current owner is wishing to retire and sell the business, and rebuilding a similar business in the Flathead would be significantly more challenging AND expensive. We knew if the processing plant didn’t sell to producers, it would likely not continue as a meat processing facility.
The SOLUTION:
By utilizing a cooperative conversion strategy, we both retain and expand, this essential agricultural infrastructure in perpetuity.
