Golden Eagles Bow Out Of NCAA Tournament In Hawaii

HILO, HAWAII -- Cal State LA's women's soccer team saw its magnificent 2022 season come to an end Thursday in the first-round of the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Golden Eagles, who wrapped up their first California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament title since 2014 on Sunday at Sonoma State, fell to Concordia, 1-0, at UH Hilo Stadium four days later. No. 4 seed Cal State LA (11-4-6) had its four-game shutout streak ended by No. 5 seed Concordia, which avenged a 1-0 loss to the Golden Eagles earlier this season.

The only goal of the game came in the fourth minute when Concordia (13-4-2) earned a corner kick and Analisa Gjonovich hooked it inside the far post for her third goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles had trouble generating much offense in the first half and were outshot, 4-2. In the second half, Cal State LA had a 5-1 advantage in shots, but couldn't get one past Concordia goalkeeper Riley Urquiza, who made three saves for the shutout.

Areli Reyes made two saves for the Golden Eagles.

Seven different players had shots for Cal State LA. Liliana Gonzalez, Destiny Moedano, Thaiz Hernandez, Lauren Sanchez, Haley Clark, Kaelah Basurto took the attempts for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles finished the season with 11 wins, which is the most for Cal State LA since 2014. Cal State LA also recorded 13 shutouts, which was among the leaders in the nation.
