Connecting Neighbors to Nature: Re-Imagining Transportation Opportunities at NWRs

Webinar Description:
Interested in learning more about the Public Lands Transportation Fellows Program? Wondering how a FWS assignment is different from NPS? Looking to hear more details about projects our fellows work on? Have questions about the differences between a fellow and an advanced fellow? Then this webinar is for you!

In this 1-hour webinar, Ella Weber, Public Lands Transportation Fellow at Eastern Massachusetts NWR Complex and Parker River NWR Complex, will provide a recap of the work she has accomplished from 2021-2022. This work includes connecting with community partners, improving safety & access, exploring new technology, and enhancing car-free opportunities.

Presenter Bio:

Ella Weber
Ella Weber began her fellowship in August 2020, sharing time between two refuge complexes. At Eastern Massachusetts NWR Complex, she's expanding on existing efforts to increase equitable access to surrounding urban areas. She's especially excited to work with community partners to capitalize on the wealth of regional bike trails and waterways. Her work at Parker River NWR Complex reflects similar goals, with a focus on increasing multimodal access and decreasing reliance on personal vehicles. She's looking forward to exploring strategies to enhance access and safety while maintaining ecological integrity and resilience.

Ella recently completed her MS in Natural Resources Science & Management at the University of Minnesota, where she studied the impacts of small-scale green infrastructure on human health in urban neighborhoods. While in Minneapolis, she worked as a cycling and pedestrian advocate, with a special interest in the public health implications of complete streets policies. She's continuing to explore the relationship between human health and the built environment at UMass Amherst, where she is pursuing a PhD in Urban Planning, and brings this health lens to her fellowship work as well. Off the clock, Ella is an avid cyclist, gardener and knitter, and is excited to get better at bird identification while at the refuges.
