Histone H3 G34 Tail Mutations in Cancer: Actions in Cis and Trans to Alter Chromatin and Gene Expression

Abstract

Sequencing of cancer genomes has demonstrated that driver mutations occur in every component of the transcriptional machinery including histones that comprise the nucleosome. Histone mutations may affect the "tail" residues subject to post-translational modification and can compromise the structural integrity of the histone octamer.See related article by Khazaei et al., p. 1968.
