Should You Be Worried About Fatty Liver Disease‪?‬ Living Well Podcast by Jefferson Health

    • Medicine

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease may be a disease you may not know about, or even know you have, and it is predicted to be the number one indicator of the need for liver transplant in the next few years. In this episode, we connect with transplant hepatologist Dr. Dina Halegoua-DeMarzio, dedicated to trying to prevent patients from needing a liver transplant because of fatty liver disease. She breaks down what causes it, symptoms (or sometimes lack of symptoms), risk factors and what makes this disease so complicated to diagnose. We also connect with her patient, Karl Burrows, who shares his personal journey after being diagnosed with fatty liver disease in the 1980s. He shares how he was able to keep the disease at bay for more than 20 years before his health took a turn in 2018 and how he’s working with Dr. Halegoua-DeMarzio to stay well through lifestyle choices.
