Happy Holiday week 2022
Today's guest is Darlene Crone-Todd from the BF Skinner Foundation.
As my audience may know, my first career was a dolphin trainer at the Gulfarium in Ft. Walton Beach Fl. I have been used the BF Skinner teaching methods for not just dolphins but in teaching swimming, teaching my employees, and managing my various businesses. I am thrilled to introduce this amazing group of people who are carrying the light of the positive reinforcement torch on today.
My very special guest today is Darlene Crone-Todd from the BF Skinner Foundation from Harvard. She is a full time professor in Psychology at the Salem University from Salem, MA.
What would you like to learn? How were you taught in school? Do you remember the material well? There are different teaching techniques. And, to a varying degree they can be effective. However, study after study from BF Skinner demonstrated how the principals of learning (positive, variable schedules, shaping, extinguishing,) have stood the test of time across human demographics and species. What are these techniques?
As a student, what type of teaching technique would you prefer? Do you want a positive environment with quick progress? What would that look like? This type of teaching shapes the learning into small steps for the quickest progress. It's by breaking down the learning (either physical i.e. ice skating or mental i.e research papers) that the students can enjoy the process as well as the instructor. They both get positive reinforcement from the interaction and exchange of knowledge?
Studies are demonstrating that employees are not always happy in the workplace. How can we have a better work environment? What is "positive" anyway? Does it work for anyone. If you are a manager, how can you be more effective?
To answer these questions, and many more tune into this essential Sunday Coffee podcast for a Happy 2023!
