Spark is Patrick Kelly’s story; we first met him back in Secrets, The Web of Sin Series. Patrick was the deliciously handsome driver who picked up Araneae McCrie and delivered her to his boss, Sterling Sparrow. It is all coming back to you? I pray that it does, after all, Secrets came out in 2018, seems like forever when Sterling Sparrow made his presence known. Patrick Kelly is Sterling’s right-hand man; he lives in the Sparrow ( bat) cave next to Sterling’s the Left-Hand man, Reid, the wizard behind the curtain. All three men met around the age of eighteen, enlisted and served together along with Mason, who found his way back to the pride. The four men have supported each other and made Chicago’s underground a little safer for children and homeless people. When Sterling Sparrow took over the organization, he needed people whom he could trust, and his most trusted allies are; Patrick, Reid, and Mason. These men trained together, serve their country together, and remained true to each other, by building a bond based on shared experiences. They took what happened to them before their training and put it behind, only moving forward. So, yes, each one of them has past lives, somethings in their past remain there and some show up out of the blue. As I finished this amazing story, the Song, Try by Pink came into my head, listen to the lyrics. Aleatha Roming could not have given Web of Desire series a better title. Spark, the first book of this epic trilogy has indeed caught my heart and soul in the web of suspense, sensuality and emotional storm. Set in the dark, rich and powerful underworld scene of Chicago, this enthralling story weaves a captivating tale of love, chaos and deception. My heart is flying high from the adrenaline rush of an intricate storyline, explosive feelings and twisted characters. A masterpiece every way. Patrick and Madeline connected while they were young, poor and homeless in the dangerous and dirty streets of Chicago. Now years later, Patrick is one of the rulers of this city along with his friends. He is one of the top men of The Sparrows, the most feared and respected underworld outfit. He has power. He has money. And yet nothing matters when his path clashes with Madeline again. She is in Chicago to take part in a high rolling poker tournament in Club Regal as she has established herself as a lethal player. But there are secrets buried behind her seductive smile, gorgoeus dresses and alluring confidence. Danger is chasing her and her only way to beat it is to win the jackpot. As the story unfolds, every twist makes it more complicated. The rivalrly between Sparrows and it's old enemies. Patrick and Madeline's insane chemistry even when they have so many unresolved issues. A mess of blood, money and power. I seriously was afraid of even blinking as I did not want to miss a single detail. Madeline is an amazing character. She is the epitome of beauty and brains. I am so in love with her multilayer personality. She is this cold, calculating, smart, cunning and devious poker player one moment. And in the next moment I get a glimpse of her vulnerability and pain. She is playing a dangerous game and it may cost her everything. And Patrick is the factor she did not count. The sweet, caring and gentle boy has hardened with time's trial and transformed into this intimidating man. His power, his undeniable charisma and the edge of cruelty makes him a fascinating character. And what makes him even more intriguing is the same good man caring for Madeline beneath his rough dark exterior. Having said all these, for me the hero of the story was the plot and the chemistry. Aleatha Romig delivers punches after puches. The break neck speed of the story kept me glued to the pages yet it did not lessen the impact of romance at all. Patrick and Madeline's connection is something out of this world. They have so much heartache and suffering and longing between them. Their paths collided and they may end up hurting each other even more. My heart was breaking for their starcrossed love story. And that cliffhanger ending literally made me hit my head. Repeatedly. Spark by Aleatha Romig was a brilliant beginning to what I feel would be an incredible series. This story balanced the angst, the mystery, the mind games, the power plays and the tragically beautiful love perfectly. 5 SPARKLING STARS! Received ARC for Honest review

I'm not really sure how I feel about this book. I found myself bored with the sort of suspense thriller/murder mystery stuff. The romance was few and far between, and I just felt like I was waiting for it to get really good, but it never did. I'm surprised at the ratings, but maybe it's just not my thing. I really liked the ending, in fact it was my favorite part, and as crazy as this sounds, that cliffhanger is most likely why I'm going to get the next book. Go figure.
