Individuals Exploring Health Careers

PA AHEC provides information on health careers, education programs, and options to afford and plan for a career in health care.

Community Health Workers

PA AHEC’s state-accredited CHW training program and CHW continuing education prepare CHWs to become state-certified and to maintain their state certification.

Educators: Teachers, Advisors, Faculty

PA AHEC helps educators learn more about health careers, how to assist students in pursuing health careers, and ways to connect with clinical training sites.

PA AHEC health educators are trained to teach Mental Health First Aid. Smoking cessation and diabetes prevention classes also are available in some regions.

A two-year interprofessional experiential learning program for health professions students focused on rural and underserved health care and vulnerable populations. 

Community Health Worker Training

For aspiring and existing CHWs seeking state certification. State-accredited program focuses on CHW core competencies and local resources. CHW continuing education also is available.

High School Friends

SEARCH Academy

An online health career exploration program for high school students featuring live panel discussions with health professionals and career-based skills sessions. More than 160 students participated from January to May 2021, with many exploring multiple health careers.

Adult or Youth Mental Health First Aid

A skills-based course that teaches you to how identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental distress and substance use disorders. Group courses available statewide. Contact your regional Pennsylvania AHEC office to set up a Mental Health First Aid course for your organization.
