CAS Undergraduate COVID-19 Testing Requirements Spring 2022

Leading up to the start of the spring 2022 semester, please carefully read what follows, understanding the goal of these efforts is to preserve and protect in-person teaching and learning and that all employees and students teaching, working, living, or learning on a Redlands campus must follow testing protocols.

While campus residential communities will open on Sunday, January 9, CAS undergraduate courses will be taught online January 10 - 14 to allow students to be flexible with their arrival date. Classes will be offered in-person beginning Tuesday, January 18, as there are no classes on Monday, January 17, in recognition of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

When reviewing the testing details, please note the following:

  1. Do not return to campus until you receive a negative COVID test result. If after receiving a negative test result, but before your return to campus, you are deemed a close contact, or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, complete a reporting form and await guidance from a member of the Student Covid Case Team before returning to campus.
  2. As shared on December 8, 2021, and again on December 17, 2021, all CAS undergraduate students must take a PCR test within 3 to 5 days of their return to campus, except those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days who must take an antigen test. COVID-19 testing appointments are in high demand. If you have not yet scheduled an appointment to test within the required timeframe, do it today. If after exhausting all options, you cannot secure an appointment for a PCR test, a take home test, or one administered at a retail location, while discouraged, will be permitted. If you have tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days, you must take a COVID-19 antigen self-test and report the results. On/Go antigen self-tests are available at no cost at the Redlands campus testing clinic or they can be purchased in stores and online.  Any challenges in obtaining test results within the required timeframe will not excuse the testing requirement.  All undergraduate students are required to get tested and have results before their return to campus. No exceptions.
  3. Upload proof of your test result. You will also need to attest to the accuracy of the informationThe upload and attestation process will go live Monday afternoon, January 3.  You will receive an email from Student Affairs confirming it’s availability.
  4. Submit Last Vaccination Date. You will need to record the date you received your final vaccine necessary to be deemed fully vaccinated (one for Johnson & Johnson, the second for Moderna or Pfizer), the brand, and if applicable, when you received your booster.  If you cannot locate your vaccination card search your state’s health department website for their vaccine registry (California residents: https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/).
  5. Bring Effective Masks. Plan to return to campus with KN95 or N95 masks, as medical science has suggested they are more effective against the Omicron variant than cloth masks. If you are unable to get KN95 or N95 masks, you should plan to wear either two cloth masks or a cloth and surgical mask because of the ease with which the Omicron variant is transmitted.
  6. Determine Booster Eligibility and Get Boosted. On December 13, 2021, the University announced it will require COVID-19 vaccination boosters when you are eligible.  To learn if you are eligible and to find a location near you to “get boosted,” click here.
  7. Prepare for Arrival Test. Prepare to take another COVID-19 test within 3 to 5 days of arriving on campus.  PCR test results are strongly preferred for those who have not had COVID-19 in the last 90 days. If after exhausting all options, you cannot secure an appointment for a PCR test, a take home test, or one administered at a retail location, while discouraged, will be permitted. As noted above, On/Go antigen self-tests are available at no cost at the Redlands campus testing clinic or they can be purchased in stores and online.

TESTING PROTOCOLS

Spring 2022

In advance, thank you for complying with what is outlined below.

Student Athletes may have additional expectations given the nature of interaction during practice and competition. Please consult with your head coach, as appropriate.
To help assure compliance, and to provide clarity of expectations, pay particular attention to each “TO DO” item.

PRE-ARRIVAL TESTING

As stated in a message shared with you on December 17, and referenced in a University-wide message sent December 28, a COVID-19 test (PCR is preferred, but rapid/take home test results are permitted) before your return to campus and submit negative test results: therefore, if you have not already done so:

TO DO:                 Schedule a COVID-19 test three to five days before your return to campus.

If you reside locally, you should test no earlier than January 5. If you are returning to campus on Sunday January 9, you should test between January 4 and 6.  If after exhausting all options, you cannot secure an appointment for a PCR test; a take home test, or one administered at a retail location, while discouraged, will be permitted.

If you have tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days, you must take a COVID-19 antigen self-test and report the results. On/Go antigen self-tests are available at no cost at the Redlands campus testing clinic or they can be purchased in stores and online.

Once you receive your test results, you will need to upload them and confirm your vaccination and booster (if applicable) status to include dates reflected on your vaccination card.

TO DO:                 Upload proof of your pre-arrival negative test result and attest to the accuracy of the information.   Instructions on how to upload this information will be sent via email on Monday, January 3.

If you receive a positive test result complete the COVID-19 positive test reporting form and stay home until a Case Manager has cleared you to return to campus.

NOTE:  If you are aware of a close contact of yours (a family member or friend, for example) who is awaiting results of a COVID-19 test, please delay your return to campus until they have received their test results. If they test positive, or if you exhibit symptoms, please complete the Covid-19 positive test reporting form  and await guidance from a member of the Student Covid Case Team.  Do not return to campus until you receive a negative test result, or if you’ve recently been exposed to or have tested positive for Covid-19.

POST-ARRIVAL TESTING

The timeline for required testing after you return to campus has been adjusted to within 3 to 5 days of your return to campus (Keep in mind county testing sites may be closed on Monday, January 17th because of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday)

TO DO:                 Make an appointment to test within 3 to 5 days of your return to campus.  To do this using the Redlands App:  UR Ready>Testing Appointment

If you have tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days, you do need to take a COVID-19 antigen self-test and report the results. On/Go antigen self-tests are available at no cost at the Redlands campus testing clinic or they can be purchased in stores and online.

NOTE:  While testing at a county site is not required, by end of day Friday, January 7, 2022, scheduling a testing appointment for the week of January 9, at the county site on the Redlands campus or another location in San Bernardino County, should be possible through the Redlands App or by clicking here.  (If not, continue checking the site which is managed by the county, not the University)

If the Redlands campus county testing site does not have appointments available, you will need to find an alternate testing location.

TO DO:                 Upload proof of your negative post-arrival test result using the Redlands App: UR Ready Tile>Report Testing

WEEKLY TESTING

Following completion of the post-arrival COVID-19 testing protocol, all students and employees working, teaching, learning and/or residing on a University of Redlands campus who have not received a booster, must continue to test weekly. This means you must upload proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within seven days of the date of your post-arrival test. Once again if, after exhausting all options, you cannot secure an appointment for a PCR test, a take home test, or one administered at a retail location, while discouraged, will be permitted.

Weekly testing is currently required through Friday, January 21, at which time COVID-19 trends on campus and in the broader community will determine if this requirement will be extended. Weekly testing, as well as daily completion of the health assessment is, and will remain a requirement for all who are exempt from vaccination.

For guidance on how to schedule a test, and upload the results, refer to the “TO DO” list under “Post-Arrival Testing” above

If you receive a positive test result complete the COVID-19 positive test reporting form and await guidance from a member of the Student COVID Case Team (SCCT)

When not certain about your COVID-19 infection status, test as soon as possible and avoid close contacts. Do not return to campus if you know you are a close contact of someone who is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test, or if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.  If either apply (close contact or experiencing symptoms) you should complete the reporting form   Questions should be sent to:  Student_Affairs@redlands.edu
