The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) will host a Webinar on "Roundtable Discussion on Sustainable Operations: Decarbonization of the Port-Maritime Sector", on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 12:00 pm Washington, D.C.
This Webinar, created in collaboration with the Institute of the Americas (IOA) will bring together a group of experts on sustainable operations and environmental protection, who will share knowledge, ideas and experiences through an open, dynamic and interactive dialogue. Experts from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Mexico, MIS Marine, Maritime Procurement Services (MPS) and the Mexican Chamber of the Maritime Transportation Industry (CAMEINTRAM), will address the current most pressing challenges, trends, emerging technologies, and green actions that catalyze the decarbonization of the port-maritime sector.

This Webinar presented a summary of the 2023 economic closing of the port-maritime sector and economic projections for 2024. Juan Duarte, an expert in strategic growth and international financing in ports and logistics, port infrastructure, project management and predictive analytics with more than 10 years of experience in more than 13 countries in the Americas, participated. Ricardo Sanchez, an expert in economics with more than 35 years of experience working with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Asia, also participated.

This Webinar addressed the field of protection and security where ports are vital points in global trade and must be secure and protected against various threats. Best practices were presented, with an emphasis on modern processes and methodologies (digital/electronic) to show, on the one hand, the technologies themselves and on the other hand, examples of successful procedures and methodologies. Also, competent authorities from Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala and Colombia participated and shared their experiences in this changing field.

This Webinar addressed key aspects of integral maritime and port management through a gender perspective. Representatives from the WiMAC Barbados Chapter, Antigua Cruise Port, the Port Authority of Jamaica, and the Suriname Port Management Company, shared successful practices and offered recommendations on how to effectively implement a gender perspective into port and maritime operations. The presentations were followed by a roundtable discussion where participants identified elements for greater gender equality and the benefits this can bring for the industry’s performance.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP), dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) of the United Nations (UN) and sponsored by the ISPS Mexico International Network, announced the Webinar "Major Challenges for Port Development" (in Spanish) on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C. (9:00 am Mexico City).
This Webinar addressed several of the most important challenges for port development. The Webinar was held in a hybrid presentation-conversation format and brought together the ECLAC, the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine of the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), who shared their different views on how to implement effective policies to stimulate port development in key areas such as digitalization, infrastructure, climate change, and local and national governance issues.

This Webinar addressed causes, consequences and prospects for the rise in freight prices due to the pandemic and the change in consumption patterns. This Round Table discussion addressed key aspects of making Maritime Single Window (MSW) mandatory by IMO and its importance as a port imperative. Moderated by IAPH, representatives from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, and both the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and the National Port Authority spoke about the advantages, benefits, and challenges of MSW as well as the importance of inter-governmental collaboration for its success.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP) and the Mexico International ISPS Network, dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, announced the Webinar in Spanish on The Return of Cruise Ships: Post-pandemic Lessons Learned held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM Washington, D.C. & Santiago (10:00 AM CDMX).
The Webinar addressed the issue of the return of cruise ships, after more than a year of suspended operations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The US's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) took an important step by authorizing the start of simulated voyages, meaning that cruise lines operate ships with volunteer passengers to demonstrate that their new protocols work. These are limited trips in which a cruise line invites volunteers to help follow all the necessary procedures to ensure that trips can be made safely.

This Webinar addressed, as a central theme, the use of digital tools improve operational management and the cybersecurity implications of port modernization. Representatives of Prodevelop demonstrated the use of the Posidonia Port CDM tool to improve decision-making, operation indicators and increase port competitiveness, which was part of the Call for Applications to obtain a license to use for free for 6 months. HudsonAnalytix shared successful cybersecurity practices and discussed the responsibility involved in the digitization process in ports, and ended with Mexico International ISPS Network's (RED PBIP México Internacional) considerations in this regard.

As part of the activities of its Capacity Building and Scholarship Program and reiterating its commitment to strengthen technical capabilities of port officials in the Caribbean, the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP), in collaboration with strategic partner MAERSK, is pleased to announce a Webinar on Port Resiliency: Severe Weather Planning and Trade Lane Management, which was held on June 30th at 12:00 PM EST via Webex Event.
The Webinar was a closed per invitation-only event directed to leadership of Caribbean National Port Authorities and addressed key components for improved Severe Weather Planning and Trade Lane management, which included aspects of port resiliency.
