The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) will host a Webinar on "Roundtable Discussion on Sustainable Operations: Decarbonization of the Port-Maritime Sector", on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 12:00 pm Washington, D.C.

This Webinar, created in collaboration with the Institute of the Americas (IOA) will bring together a group of experts on sustainable operations and environmental protection, who will share knowledge, ideas and experiences through an open, dynamic and interactive dialogue. Experts from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Mexico, MIS Marine, Maritime Procurement Services (MPS) and the Mexican Chamber of the Maritime Transportation Industry (CAMEINTRAM), will address the current most pressing challenges, trends, emerging technologies, and green actions that catalyze the decarbonization of the port-maritime sector.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) hosted a Webinar on "2023 Economic Closing Outlook and 2024 Projections", on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at 12:00 pm Washington, D.C.

This Webinar presented a summary of the 2023 economic closing of the port-maritime sector and economic projections for 2024. Juan Duarte, an expert in strategic growth and international financing in ports and logistics, port infrastructure, project management and predictive analytics with more than 10 years of experience in more than 13 countries in the Americas, participated. Ricardo Sanchez, an expert in economics with more than 35 years of experience working with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Asia, also participated.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) hosted a Webinar on "Best Practices in Port Protection and Security: Challenges and Solutions", in collaboration with the Mexico International ISPS Network on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C.

This Webinar addressed the field of protection and security where ports are vital points in global trade and must be secure and protected against various threats. Best practices were presented, with an emphasis on modern processes and methodologies (digital/electronic) to show, on the one hand, the technologies themselves and on the other hand, examples of successful procedures and methodologies. Also, competent authorities from Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Guatemala and Colombia participated and shared their experiences in this changing field.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) hosted a Webinar on "Port Community System Implementation: Part II", in collaboration with the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA) on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C.

This Webinar addressed how to implement a Port Community System in a country including cybersecurity fundamentals and measures to prevent and manage cyber risks. In addition, IPCSA shared a regional approach for data sharing through its Network of Trusted Networks and its benefits for port authorities. Representatives from the Port of St. Maarten shared successful practices on the implementation and management of their PCS.

This Webinar addressed the importance of legislative modernization in the port-maritime sector for its integral strengthening in the region. Representatives from the Tecnológico de Monterrey of Mexico; the Superintendence of Transportation of Colombia and E&M International Consulting of the Dominican Republic presented key elements for updating port-maritime legislation, the benefits and challenges of developing and implementing a modern law. The progress on the update of the CIP's Guide to Port Legislation was shared.

This Webinar addressed the importance of waterways and inland ports for the economic development of the region, as well as the main challenges for strategic integration and their impact on global trade. Representatives from the General Administration of Ports (AGP) of Argentina, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC) and the National Administration of Navigation and Ports (ANNP) of Paraguay presented on the role of waterways and inland ports in river connectivity and their influence on the competitiveness of the countries where they are located.

This Webinar presented different perspectives of disaster risk management from CIP Associate Members and Strategic Partners dedicated to safeguarding and increasing resilience of ports and communities from natural and anthropogenic disasters. Representatives from Amazon Web Services and HudsonAnalytix, shared views regarding implementation of successful emergency response strategies that promote preparedness, efficient relief efforts and minimal loss. The Webinar also provided an executive project status presentation of the CIP Improved Disaster Risk Management for Ports in the Caribbean Project.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) hosted a Webinar on "Port Cybersecurity: A Challenge for an Efficient Logistics Chain" on Thursday, March 9th, 2023 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C. (10:00 am CST).

This Webinar identified an analyzed, in the current hemispheric context, the probability of a threat to exploit vulnerabilities in relation to cyber risk management in ports by organized crime. Considering the importance of exchanging information and best practices, the event had the participation of competent authorities and companies from Mexico and the United States, who shared their experiences in this changing field. In addition, the Risk Analysis Matrix for Port Security Officers was also be presented.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) hosted a Webinar on "Automatization and Digitalization for Port Management" on Tuesday, December 6th, 2022 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C. (10:00 am CST).

The Webinar provided a platform to ports and terminals in the region to share award-winning automatization and digitalization initiatives for port management. Representatives from APM Terminals Callao, the Port of Itaqui and Santos Port Authority presented on innovative technology projects including digital twin models, integration of systems, among others. This Webinar provided an overview of the port-maritime sector after the pandemic from the perspective of cruise ports. Representatives from the Coordination General for Ports and Merchant Marine of the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), Barbados Port Inc. (BPI) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) presented on the importance of cruise ports to the growth and reactivation of local economies. The panellists also shared lessons learned and successful practices on cruise port security.

The Conversation brought together a group of public and private experts from the maritime-port sector, who shared their knowledge, ideas and experiences through an open, dynamic and interactive dialogue. The audience was conformed mainly of women from the maritime-port sector of the Americas, who were able to actively participate in conversations focused on the importance of social responsibility, as well as strategic actions for the sustainability of ports.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP), in collaboration with RightShip hosted the Webinar "Sustainable Management Operations" on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2022 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C. (10:00 am CST).

This Webinar addressed measures for sustainability and protection of the environment through port operations. Representatives from the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) and Piedroba Consulting Group (PCG) presented on the Caribbean Marine Environment Protection Agency (CARIBMEPA) and sustainable dredging, respectively. The CIP briefly presented its Guide for Green Ports. The presentations will be followed by a roundtable discussion that will focus on the importance of green port operations and its impact as well as key aspects for a sustainable management.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP), dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, in collaboration with the Women in Maritime Caribbean (WiMAC) Barbados Chapter, held the Webinar "Gender Equality in the Port-Maritime Sector: Inclusion as a Catalyst for Competitiveness" on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C. (10:00 am Mexico City).

This Webinar addressed key aspects of integral maritime and port management through a gender perspective. Representatives from the WiMAC Barbados Chapter, Antigua Cruise Port, the Port Authority of Jamaica, and the Suriname Port Management Company, shared successful practices and offered recommendations on how to effectively implement a gender perspective into port and maritime operations. The presentations were followed by a roundtable discussion where participants identified elements for greater gender equality and the benefits this can bring for the industry’s performance.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP), dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) of the United Nations (UN) and sponsored by the ISPS Mexico International Network, announced the Webinar "Major Challenges for Port Development" (in Spanish) on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 11:00 am Washington, D.C. (9:00 am Mexico City).

This Webinar addressed several of the most important challenges for port development. The Webinar was held in a hybrid presentation-conversation format and brought together the ECLAC, the General Coordination of Ports and Merchant Marine of the Mexican Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), who shared their different views on how to implement effective policies to stimulate port development in key areas such as digitalization, infrastructure, climate change, and local and national governance issues.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP), dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, in collaboration with the Mexico International ISPS Network announced the upcoming Webinar in Spanish on Cost Variation in Maritime Freight: Causes and Perspectives on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 11:00 AM Washington, D.C. (10:00 AM Mexico City, 1:00 PM Santiago).

This Webinar addressed causes, consequences and prospects for the rise in freight prices due to the pandemic and the change in consumption patterns. The Webinar featured presentations from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); the Lázaro Cárdenas National Port System Administration, Mexico; the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA); and Exolgan Container Terminal. The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP), dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, announced the upcoming Round Table on Maritime Single Window: A Port Imperative on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM Washington, D.C. (10:00 AM Mexico City).

This Round Table discussion addressed key aspects of making Maritime Single Window (MSW) mandatory by IMO and its importance as a port imperative. Moderated by IAPH, representatives from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, and both the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and the National Port Authority spoke about the advantages, benefits, and challenges of MSW as well as the importance of inter-governmental collaboration for its success.

The Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (S/CIP) and the Mexico International ISPS Network, dedicated to strengthening the technical capacities of port personnel in the Americas, announced the Webinar in Spanish on The Return of Cruise Ships: Post-pandemic Lessons Learned held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at 11:00 AM Washington, D.C. & Santiago (10:00 AM CDMX).

The Webinar addressed the issue of the return of cruise ships, after more than a year of suspended operations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The US's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) took an important step by authorizing the start of simulated voyages, meaning that cruise lines operate ships with volunteer passengers to demonstrate that their new protocols work. These are limited trips in which a cruise line invites volunteers to help follow all the necessary procedures to ensure that trips can be made safely.

Likewise, Puertos del Estado and INDRA presented the SIMPLE Project and the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) presented the organization and its collaboration with port authorities in the Western Hemisphere.

The Webinar presented the CIP Guide for Environmental Certification and for the Preparation of Sustainability Reports, or “Green Guide,” which provides ports with general information to establish a plan of action and make a commitment to environmentally sustainable management. Also, it presented the Caribbean Marine Environment Protection Association (CARIBMEPA), which supports the Caribbean on the implementation of MARPOL and other measures to protect the marine environment, and the CIP project “Improved Disaster Risk Management for Ports in the Caribbean,” which aims at strengthening disaster risk management capabilities in Port and Maritime Authorities of the Caribbean.

This Webinar addressed, as a central theme, the use of digital tools improve operational management and the cybersecurity implications of port modernization. Representatives of Prodevelop demonstrated the use of the Posidonia Port CDM tool to improve decision-making, operation indicators and increase port competitiveness, which was part of the Call for Applications to obtain a license to use for free for 6 months. HudsonAnalytix shared successful cybersecurity practices and discussed the responsibility involved in the digitization process in ports, and ended with Mexico International ISPS Network's (RED PBIP México Internacional) considerations in this regard.
