We are excited for another year of the Basquiat Project. Selected works will be showcased at Barclays Center. Date TBD.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Student created artworks from teachers who used and taught the Basquiat unit to elementary, middle and high school grades.
- Each art teacher may submit up to 5 artworks. Each artwork submitted must come from different students. For example, Jane Doe can only have one piece submitted.
- Only artwork produced from the 2023-24 Basquiat unit will be considered.
- Artwork should be aligned to the grade-appropriate Blueprint Benchmarks and NYS Arts Standards to help guide submission choices.
- Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
ARTWORK
- Artwork can be: 2-Dimensional, 3-Dimensional, or created videos.
- 2-Dimensional works should be no bigger than 36 inches in length and width.
- 3-Dimensional: no bigger than 24 inches in length, width and height.
- Videos up to 3 minutes in length.
ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTS
- Artist Statement: Each application must have an artist statement (written or video) based on the following questions. 200 (edited from prior communication) word maximum. No exception.
- What did you understand from studying about Jean-Michel Basquiat?
- How did the Basquiat Project inspire your work?
- What social issues, if any, are addressed in your work?
- Signed media consent forms must accompany each submission. Download blank consent forms HERE.
SELECTION
- Please note, submission does not guarantee acceptance.
- Selected works will be exhibited at Barclays Center. DATE TBD
- Post-exhibition further selected works from the show may be temporarily displayed at a different site for 2024-25.
- Selected works will need to be mailed or dropped off at 65 Court Street from June 10- 20, 2024.
