Scholarships

The Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Faculty Staff Association (APIDA) seeks to recognize students who represent the spirit of APIDA through their academic accomplishments and personal commitment to their community, campus, and/or family. APIDA awards a $300 scholarship to one student at each of the three NOCCCD campuses: Cypress College, Fullerton College, and the North Orange Continuing Education.

The Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Faculty Staff Association (APIDA) seeks to recognize students who represent the spirit of APIDA through their academic accomplishments and personal commitment to their community, campus, and/or family. The Cypress College APIDA scholarship of $300 will be awarded to a currently enrolled student in any field. 

Specific Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a currently enrolled student at Cypress College.
  • Plan to finish a certificate in a Career Technical Education field OR earn an associate degree for the 2023-2024 academic year OR plan to be enrolled at least half-time at an accredited 4-year college or university in the next fall or spring term 
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0

Note: If you attend multiple campuses in our district, such as NOCE or Fullerton, you may only apply to one campus. Previous APIDA scholarship recipients are ineligible to re-apply.

Students must submit:

    1. An application which includes a personal essay detailing  accomplishments and future goals which may include academic achievements/awards, campus activities, work experience, community involvement, volunteer work, and/or family responsibilities;
    2. A copy of unofficial transcripts (from MyGateway) – send to Sarah Coburn, counselor scoburn@cypresscollege.edu. Please include in the subject line: APIDA Scholarship – Your Name
    3. A letter of recommendation – students will need to send the link to their recommender (provided in the application)

Members of the APIDA scholarship committee read all applications and select the recipient.

Letter of Recommendation

The student is required to request one letter of recommendation from an individual who knows the student and is familiar with his/her accomplishments and extracurricular activities. A teacher, counselor, work supervisor, community service leader, or an individual familiar with the applicant could serve as a recommender.

Recommendations from relatives will not be accepted.  It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that their recommender submits a letter of recommendation with the student’s ID number to: (TBD)

Recommenders may describe the applicant’s community service, leadership skills, academic accomplishments, and family responsibilities. APIDA welcomes and appreciates any additional comments about the applicant that will help the selection committee in the evaluation process.

Fullerton College

North Orange Continuing Education

The NOCE APIDA scholarships of $300 will be awarded to currently enrolled students in any field. 

Specific Eligibility Criteria

  • Be a currently enrolled student at NOCE.
  • Plan to be enrolled at a community college in the Fall or spring term of the next academic year OR be finishing a CTE certificate this semester.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 OR show Satisfactory or Passing progress

Note: If you attend multiple campuses in our district, such as Fullerton or Cypress, you may only apply to one campus. Previous APIDA scholarship recipients are ineligible to re-apply.
