49ers’ Head Team Physician, Dr. Timothy McAdams, Elected NFLPS President

(Indianapolis, IN — March 3, 2022) – Today Timothy McAdams, M.D., Head Team Physician for the San Francisco 49ers was unanimously elected President of the NFL Physicians Society (NFLPS).

“It is a great honor to be elected President of the NFLPS, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead this important organization dedicated to caring for our athletes,” Dr. McAdams said.

“As the 49ers team physician for 14 years and head team physician for 7 years, Tim McAdams M.D. shows his compassionate care for our 49ers’ players and staff through his attention to detail, careful diagnosis, correspondence, treatment and follow up. In addition, Dr. McAdams regularly reviews the 49ers care procedures according to the NFL and NFLPA directions for emergency action plans, best use of medications and player practice guidelines. He also serves on the NFL Musculoskeletal Committee. I am proud that Dr. McAdams is the 49ers head team physician and I know he’ll be a great leader for the NFLPS,” said Dr. John York, Owner & Chairman of the San Francisco 49ers and Chairman of the NFL Owner’s Health and Safety Advisory Committee since its inception in 2011.

McAdams has worked with the San Francisco 49ers since 2007 when he started as a team physician. In addition to his work with the 49ers, McAdams was previously the Vice President of the NFLPS. He was the recipient of the prestigious NFLPS Art Rettig Research Award for his presentation, “Video Analysis of ACL injuries in the NFL.”

He has authored over 40 peer reviewed journal articles in orthopedic surgery. McAdams also serves as the Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for Stanford Men’s and Women’s Soccer.  He has also served as team physician for the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Giants, and San Jose Earthquakes.

He is a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and has been a Traveling Fellow in sports medicine with the Arthroscopy Association of North America.

McAdams received a BS in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and MD from Georgetown University, where he was AOA honor society and graduated Magna Cum Laude.

The two-year position as president of the NFLPS was previously held by Anthony Casolaro, M.D., of the Washington Commanders.
