Public Meeting on Deep Well Injection Tonight

Posted
BRADENTON – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will host a public meeting at the downtown central library today from 4–7 p.m. Representatives of both DEP and Manatee County will be available to answer questions and provide information about the draft Underground Injection Control Class I Injection Well System Construction and Testing Permit for the Manatee County Utilities' Piney Point injection well.

This draft permit would authorize the construction and operational testing of one non-hazardous Class I injection well (IW-1) and one dual-zone monitor well (DZMW-1) for the disposal of industrial wastewater from the Manatee County Piney Point Facility following an extensive review of plans by DEP, including engineering and geology professionals.

Persons wishing to provide written public comments should provide a copy of the comments to Annette G. Roberts at the mailing and email addresses listed above, or to DEP during the public meeting. Those wishing to enter an oral comment into the record at the public meeting will be able to do so on an individual basis at an oral comment station.

All oral or written public comments should be provided to DEP prior to the conclusion of the meeting on the subject permit application. All comments received within the 30-day period and through the conclusion of the public meeting will be considered in the formulation of DEP's final decision regarding permit issuance. All significant comments shall be considered in making the final decision and shall be answered as provided in Rule 62-528.330, F.A.

The Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. in downtown Bradenton.
