SFWMD workshop to discuss timeline for Everglades restoration

Posted

WEST PALM BEACH  -- The South Florida Water Management District Governing Board will review the road map to implement the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) during a workshop meeting planned for April 7 at 1 p.m.

The public may view the workshop live online at www.sfwmd.gov.

Bureau Chief, Ecosystem Restoration Planning Jennifer Leeds, and Section Administrator, Ecosystem Restoration Planning & Project Management Leslye Waugh will review the Integrated Delivery Schedule (IDS). The IDS is the list of CERP projects with the time line for each project.

CERP, authorized by Congress in 2000, is a  plan to "restore, preserve, and protect the south Florida ecosystem while providing for other water-related needs of the region, including water supply and flood protection."

The  IDS was developed in response to advice provided in the 2007 General Accountability Office (GAO) report and the 2006 National Academy of Science (NAS) Report to Congress. Subsequently, the IDS was integrated with the progress of other key non-CERP projects originally described in the CERP "yellow book" authorized by Congress in 2000. (The original report is called the "yellow book" because it had a yellow cover.)
