A section of a road in downtown Fort Lauderdale will be closed overnight as crews repair a 6-inch water line break at the intersection of Broward Boulevard and Northeast/Southeast Third Avenue.

Broward Boulevard will be closed from Northwest/Southwest Seventh Avenue to U.S. 1/Federal Highway until 5 a.m. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.

Customers in the surrounding areas may have interruptions or low water pressure while crews work.

Neighbors with questions may call the City’s 24-Hour Neighbor Service Center at 954-828-8000. The city did not release any information about a possible boil-water order.

Fort Lauderdale has suffered from a series of water main breaks caused by contractors and a network of underground pipes crumbling after years of neglect. The most recent was in January, when a leaking 10-inch water pipe forced traffic to be diverted from the eastbound lanes of Southeast 17th Street approaching Federal Highway in Poinciana Park.
